This activity is well organized in 2 days in-class Training (September 17 – 18, 2018) at Ramada Encore and 1 day practical session (September 19, 2018) at Sanur Beach and Mangrove Information Center, Bali. The target of this activity was attended by minimum 18 participants, consisting of 18 scholars from University of Udayana. Meanwhile, actual participants in this activity were 27 scholars, which consists of 2 scholars from Bogor Agricultural University, 1 scholar from University of Mataram, 1 scholar from University of Papua and 23 scholars from University of Udayana. Participants both from lead and affiliates are scholars with minimum education of Master Degree. The method used in this activity is presentation method with question and answer (discussion) session. After the presentation, we held a coaching clinic where participants can present their research paper and discussed by resource persons and other participants. Resource persons in this Training are: Dr. rer. nat Hawis Madduppa, S. Pi., M. Si Head of Marine Biodiversity and Biosystematics Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Materials: 1. Theoretical Knowledge on the Methods of Surveys in Coral Reef Studies 2. Marine Biodiversity Sample Handling, from the Field to Data Analysis Preparation Works 3. Practical Session at Sanur Beach Dr. Ir. I Wayan Nurjaya, M. Sc Head of Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Materials: 1. Physical Processes in the Coastal Sea and How to Measure and Analyze it 2. Practice of Processing Oceanography Data Using ODV 3. Presentation of Oceanography Data Processing Results by Each Group Dr. rer. nat. Kustiariyah Tarman, S. Pi., M. Si. Secretary of Department of Aquatic Products Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Materials: 1. Developing Irresistible Ideas for Fisheries and Marine Science Research After in class-training (1st – 2nd day), we conduct Practical session in Sanur Beach and Mangrove Information Center, Bali. Participants learn about method of surveys for Coral, Fish, Seagrass, Seaweed, Tides, Current, and Wave.
Participants/scholars increase capability in method of surveys for Coral, Fish, Seagrass, Seaweed, Tides, Current, and Wave, and writing scientific papers as well as sharping communication skills to become more effective science communicator.
Participants from University of Udayana were very busy, so they could not attend this Training maximally. Participants are still having difficulty in scientific writing, especially in word selection, and determination of journal target and audience.
Some scholars had learned more about method of surveys for Coral, Fish, Seagrass, Seaweed, Tides, Current, and Wave, and will apply the experience to their student in University of Udayana. By bringing their own manuscripts, researchers can immediately get inputs to improve their scientific writing. Coaching clinic method is very effective to know the scientific mistakes of researchers, personally with resource person.
For the next training at University of Udayana, we will combine training with research in field, so participants could get new experiences about research method directly.
